Pretty Little Details

Trina Turk Napkins, Furbish Ice Bucket,  LEIF Serving Set, Hobby Lobby Straws, Tassel Garland, Swoozies Wine Glass, Target Bar Cart, Society Social Wine Tote, Kate Spade Coasters, Design Darling Matches

Entertaining... there's certainly an art to it and while I'm not nearly as good at it as my friend Brittney of Hosting & Toasting, I'm getting there. The key I've discovered is all in the details. Even if you're serving takeout, all that matters is the pretty details and good company. Make it Pinterest worthy ;)

Holiday Shimmer

Give me something shinny and I'm distracted for hours. While the males in our lives may not understand the female attraction to the sequin, there's no denying we can't get enough. I mean 'tis the season ladies! There's just about nothing you can't find with some shimmer on it, from decor to clothing, even this fun DIY that would make a quick great gift.

Holiday Ready

Elizabeth McKay Dress, Kate Spade Heels, Lisi Lerch Studs, BaubleBar NecklaceGlamourpuss Fur

I love an excuse to dress up and thankfully the holidays provide plenty of them. I spend hours mulling over the perfect Christmas dress and start looking as far ahead as July. Hey, you want to be your most presentable for Jesus' birthday, right? I think this darling Elizabeth McKay dress makes the cut because there's nothing I hate more than being stuck in a sleeveless dress in the dead of winter (I don't do cold). What are you wearing for your holiday occasions?

One For You, One For Me

I know, I know... it's been far too long! But you know how the holiday season is and it's a busy one for sure. Fear not though because I'm back and today bringing you some festive cheer with gifts under $50. If you're like me then your gift giving goes something like this, one for them and one for me (oops). With this list under $50 it makes total sense give yourself a little pressie too. You deserve it!

Rock Your Bootie

Ah the bootie, the hybrid of a pump and a boot. Basically my shoe of choice every fall as they are just as easy to dress up as they are down. I did some shopping at Bloomingdales this weekend (darn sales get me every time) and picked up these by Tory Burch but I think they need a friend. Don't you?

Linked Up

  • These fall cocktails by Hosting & Toasting may be too cute to consume if they weren't so delicious. Definitely Piqued PR approved!
  • Now on my bookshelf: The Style Bible by Lauren A. Rothman of Styleauteur. After hearing her speak at Barnes & Noble Tyson Corner I can't wait to add more of her style tricks to our list.
  • Move over Pinterest, watch out Gilt. I'm racking up clothes in my virtual closet and tracking sales with RackItUp. I can't decide if the two chic entrepreneurs behind it are helping or hurting my shopaholic tendencies.
  • Even though I'm not a mom, nor anywhere close to being one (wait...do furbabies count?) I picked up the first ever edition of Washingtonian MOMs Magazine and love the editorial layouts and the inspiring women featured.

Orange Crush

Last week I posted a picture on my Facebook wall of an orange door, considering the option for my own. Let's just say the crowd went wild! While I didn't have enough courage for a year round #PSL door my obsession for the color hasn't faltered.

Happy Feet

Is there anything as blissful as a new pair of socks? Not in my book. Especially when those new socks are super stylish in fun patterns and bright colors. I just discovered JoJo Sox and they totally fit the bill. But get this... they're made especially for boots! Yes, sort of like Bootights but boot socks (or should I say "sox"). You're welcome.

Blogging Buds

Julie of Julie Leah: A Lifestyle Blog and I have never met in person and honestly just took our relationship to the email level a few months ago, yet I feel like I've known her for years! Maybe it's her sweet personality or her mutual love for monograms and pink, possibly even her adorable little fur ball seen all over Instagram? Regardless I'm so happy to have this stylish blog friend on the Piqued PR blog today!

Why did you decide to start blogging?
When I started my first real job after college, I was seeking a creative outlet. One of my best friends suggested that I start a blog. As I kept writing, I found that my blog became an integral part of my everyday routine. As time went on my blog continued to grow and evolve and I started making connections with other bloggers (some of whom have become close friends) and brands – I truly can’t imagine my life without my blog now.

How did you choose the name for your blog?
My blog originally started as Brown Eyed Belle. After blogging for about three years, I decided that my blog’s name didn’t really reflect the mission and brand of my blog. I was using “Julie Leah” on all my social media outlets, so it seemed like an obvious choice to have that reflected in my blog – and I like consistency. I felt like using my name in my blog title was an accurate reflection of what my blog was about – the things I love and the things that inspire me. I didn’t want to be locked into a name that I thought I would outgrow again.

What motivates you to keep blogging?
The connections and relationships that I’ve made over the last (almost) four years certainly keep me motivated. The response from my readers – comments, emails, tweets – gives me encouragement every day to continue creating unique, exciting content that they enjoy. Honestly, the beauty and inspiration that I find every day (on other blogs, on pinterest, on Instagram, etc) are two of the main things that motivate me. As long as I’m finding things and creating things that I just have to share with my readers, my motivation is limitless!

What are some qualities you believe a blogger needs to posses?
A unique voice, genuine interest in your readers, a passion for writing or photography – depending on the focus of your blog. I think you have to want to connect with your readers – respond to their comments, questions, tweets, etc. If your readers know you care, it means more than you even realize. The most important, in my opinion, is creating unique content. I can’t stress how important it is to be yourself and never copy from other bloggers. And know how to say “no.” Never commit to a collaboration or partnership that doesn’t feel right or reflect your blog’s mission. You will be surprised the opportunities that will present themselves because you were selective – I promise!

What do you consider your greatest success?
At this point in my life, graduate school is my biggest success. I was very burnt out when I finished my undergraduate degree. It would’ve been easy for me to throw up my hands and be done. I’m so thankful now that I had people pushing me and encouraging me along the way. It’s opened so many doors that wouldn’t have been opened had I not stuck it out for a couple more years!

What’s your social media outlet of choice and why?
Instagram is definitely my social media outlet of choice. I love being able to share little snippets of my life and interact with my readers and followers in a unique way that I can’t on my blog. The possibilities are endless with Instagram! (Pinterest is a close second!)

Thanks Julie! Be sure to read Brown Eyed Belle and follow along with Julie's social updates.

Emmy Fashion

Let's talk Emmy fashion, because every girl loves an excuse for a gown (or to gawk at one). I don't know about you, but I thought the styles were pretty tame. Come to think of it I don't think anyone was dressed particularly awful and outlandish, Wait, I take that back... what was Lena Dunham wearing?!

My favorites above were chosen for their sophisticated hues, figure flattering silhouette and a point for finding a way to rock the crop top trend of the moment on the red carpet (and doing it well). What were your favorite looks?

Blogging Buds

I originally found Emily of The Sweetest Thing through Instagram, stalking her feminine with a hint of preppy style from afar. Not only do I admire her style and her flowing mane (can I have her hair, please?) but also her sweet personality. Find out how her blog got it's name, hint it's one of my favorite songs and more below.

Why did you decide to start blogging?
Actually I started blogging as a way to share with my family and friends what John and I were up to when we moved away for medical school (him) and got engaged. I realize Facebook is good for that but I am not a big status person so I enjoyed the blog because I could write a couple of paragraphs of what we did that weekend and show a few photos. It also served as a creative outlet since I was stressed with my first ‘big girl’ job and wedding planning.

How did you choose the name for your blog?
It’s a song by U2. It says, “a blue eyed boy met a brown eyed girl, oh oh, The Sweetest Thing!” (we fit that description!)

What motivates you to keep blogging?
Personally, the ‘thank you’ e-mails really keep it going for me… Of course I love sharing my style and fashion finds with others but I like knowing that there are women and girls out there that enjoy reading it and can sometimes be inspired by it.

What are some qualities you believe a blogger needs to posses?
Confidence, most importantly. Resilience. Self-motivation. & Very thick skin.

What do you consider your greatest success?
As far as blogging goes, probably being featured as one of Lauren Conrad’s top 5 ‘fabulous bloggers’! In life itself, I would say completing my MBA in 11 months while working 2 jobs and graduating with a 3.9 GPA. OH! And did that I mention that was when John and I were in the ‘falling in love’ stage. It taught me a lot about myself. I learned just how driven I am and that I could balance all different parts of life and succeed at the same time.

What’s your social media outlet of choice and why?
Instagram, for sure. I love photos. Always have. I would rather see photos than read and I enjoy sneak peeks into other people’s lives! I enjoy sharing little square moments of my life and my favorite colors, jewels, people, etc.

Thanks Emily! The Sweetest Thing is permanently book marked on my Bloglovin'.

Park Ave to Main Line

It's taking everything, EVERYTHING in me to not spend all of my money on the new Kate Spade 2 Park Avenue Beau Bag! Besides being beau-tiful it also is quite practical with it's large and structured size. While the solid versions always make a good addition to a wardrobe I'm craving the color blocked options. Color blocking may be a hot trend but these bags far exceed the season.

Weren't they made for a Main Line princess?

#NYFW

#NYFW is in full swing and while I haven't made up there yet (not until Wednesday), I've been keeping up on Style.com and WWD. After waiting all summer for fall to arrive I now can't wait until Spring 2014. I blame all the fabulous collections!

My favorite so far? Alexander Wang's cool and casual collection. I dream of wearing an outfit that resembles pjs well past bedtime. All you need is a side of confidence. What's your favorite collection so far?

Business Babes

Patterns, colors and monograms are a must at the Piqued PR office so when I found La Plates on an interior design blog I was hooked. La Plates allows you to personalize entertaining with their products. They have everything from plates to cups in an array of prints and multiple hues all with monograms! I had to hear more about the brand from La Plates' owner Lara.
When and why did you decide to create your brand?
La Plates was born after I became a mother. I was tired of all the cartoon character plates – I knew there had to be a way to class up our tabletop using a kid-friendly material. I also wanted to create something that was reusable and durable, something my boys couldn’t break when trying to clear the table.

What is your background in and how did this help prepare you in regards to your business?
I was an elementary school teacher – I think teachers are amazing multi-taskers. That combined with being a mother prepared me to wear all the hats of an entrepreneur & business owner.

What do you believe sets your brand apart from competitors?
I believe La Plates creates products that clients will use for years to come. Our products are durable, reusable, but most of all they have fabulous, colorful designs! We also work really hard to understand our clients and what they want. If we don’t have exactly what they are looking for, we get to work and create something just for them. Often times, that’s how we come up with new products or design patterns – clients’ special requests.

What do you consider your greatest success?
We’ve had so many amazing things happen in the last five years. I’m so thankful for all the great people who have made it possible for La Plates to grow and thrive. The month that La Plates appeared in both House Beautiful & Elle Décor on full pages was pretty special, I would consider that a moment of feeling success.

What is your social media outlet of choice and why?
Oh wow, that’s a tough one …can I just say a 3-way tie between Instagram, Pinterest & Facebook? Instagram might top the list these days – I love editing pictures with the filters.

Thanks Lara! La Plates are on our list for entertaining, who wouldn't want to eat off their monogram.

Throw Some Confetti

I recently stumbled upon The Confetti Bar through Instagram (don't you love social media) and am quite obsessed. Who doesn't love a party and an excuse to throw pretty little bits of sparkles? Not only are these fun to order for an event but I'd love to send a package of confetti to a friend as a just because gift. What a fun surprise that would be to open!

But what I might enjoy even more is their new prints. They feature confetti cereal, ice cream and cupcakes! All my favorite food groups, and just how I like them!

The Look of Cool

Truth be told, I didn't jump onto the wedge sneaker trend yet. Actually, I still am not 100% certain that I ever will. Don't get me wrong I think it's a cool look, I've just never classified my style as well, "cool". Maybe if wedged sneakers came in pink gingham with monograms... jk that would be horrifying!

In all seriousness though, I do love this casual look. It says, "I'm chic" without saying "I'm uncomfortable". Wouldn't you agree?

Blogging Buds

I met Melissa of The Atelier blog about a year ago through Sweet Lemon Magazine. Us both being Philly gals obsessed with fashion I knew we had to be friends. Can you ever have enough fashionable friends? Melissa's beyond talented, in addition to being tres chic and having a blog I could spend hours on she also designs stationary. You have to check out her PS line and read on about her blogging life.

Why did you decide to start blogging?
I was looking for a creative outlet where I could focus on things I don’t at my day job … entertaining, fashion (my first love), interiors, etc. It’s a lot of fun to be able to write about what’s currently inspiring me.

How did you choose the name for your blog?
The word “atelier” means workshop in French, and ties in my love of fashion (many fashion houses have an atelier) with my love to create (and all things French!).

What motivates you to keep blogging?
Building relationships with readers and connecting with other bloggers across the country and world is one of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced. It’s really amazing when I share something on my blog and find out that someone out there has been inspired or can connect with what I’ve said.

What are some qualities you believe a blogger needs to posses?
I’d say any blogger (or entrepreneur) would need to be a self-starter, have patience (things don’t happen overnight), and a willingness to put themselves out there. It’s also really important to have your own voice and develop your own aesthetic!

What do you consider your greatest success?
Officially starting my business this year and seeing my designs featured by people and publications I admire and read daily.

What’s your social media outlet of choice and why?
Definitely Instagram. I love being able to see the world through other peoples’ eyes! (you can follow along @mnouc)

Thanks Melissa! I love a local Philly gal with a great sense of style. Be sure to check out The Atelier

Bow-tiful

There's nothing quite as feminine as a bow. As little girls we wear a bow in our hair and learn to tie our shoes in pretty bows. While we may have outgrown those bows, many designers have been using bows with a grown up flair.

I mean these Kate Spade Heels scream sexy, not child's play. Are bows found in your wardrobe?

Genius Outfit

Carven Skirt, Textile Tee, Kate Spade Heels, Stella & Dot Earrings, Brian Atwood Crossbody

Mondays call for you to put on your genius hat. After a fun weekend it's hard to get back in the groove but you know what helps? A fabulous fun outfit to kick off the work week! And really, this outfit is too fun with the statement tee, bits of leather and leopard.

The best part about this outfit though is it would easily transition into fall. Just add black opaque tights and a black blazer. Now that's year round style!

Business Babe

Have you seen LaRoque's designs? If not you must, think flirty silhouettes, bright colors oh and lots of fun big bows! I talked with LaRoque's designer AnnaBelle to hear more about her background and inspiration for the brand.

What is your background in and how did this help prepare you in regards to your business?
I have PR degree, retail minor. PR helps me communicate effectively with my customers.

What do you believe sets your brand apart from competitors?
The fact that we do custom garments. People can pick the style and fabric they want for their garment. We also offer a limited quantity of each fabric to ensure that the customer gets a unique piece.

What do you consider your greatest success?
My greatest success is being able to make a living off of my life.

What is your social media outlet of choice and why?
Instagram, because I like photography. I also think people respond better to a visual rather than writing. I also like that I can show other parts of my life apart from my designs.

Thanks AnnaBelle! I can't wait to see what the LaRoque new fall collection has in store!

Weekly Finds

C Wonder Bangle, BaubleBar Necklace, Brian Lichtenberg Tee, Society Social Wine Tote

For years I've been lusting after an Hermes bangle. I've visited the store and tried them on many of times yet as close as I get, I just can't bring myself to hand over the credit card yet. $700 for an enamel bracelet just isn't justifiable in my current budget (hello new homeowner!).

When I discovered this C Wonder bangle though with it's enamel elephant motif and classic print I automatically thought it may fill my Hermes hole in my heart for the time being. And $68? I think I can handle that.

As for the rest, I think they explain themselves.

Miss Business

It's not often that I have to dress conservatively but I know many don't have that luxury so I decided to play pretend and give you some closet inspiration. While they say every girl needs an LBD in their closet I also think an LGD is a must. It's just as conservative but gives you the opportunity to mix things up.

Can we talk about the shoes though? Gucci always has a good shoe game but these are just bow-tiful! The perfect subtle feminine touch.

Blogging Babe

I'm not even sure how blogger/entrepreneur Mae Badiyan and I met but it definitely was thanks so social media. After months of tweeting, emailing and Instagram "liking" we finally met in person at Pepperologie and I must say she truly is a sweetheart, with a great sense of style and serious business skills. Her latest venture you ask? Oh besides being a lawyer and a teacher she just opened The Blo Bar in her hometown! Read on to find out about her love for blogging...

Why did you decide to start blogging?
Similar to my love of fashion, my love of the blogging world developed from a desire to foster more creativity in my life. I was living abroad, working in a professional environment that didn't leave much room for personal creativity, so I started reading a couple blogs and next thing I knew I was playing around with my own. I loved the idea of having a little corner of the Internet that I could style!

How did you choose the name for your blog?
Originally, my blog was named after me & my mom. But I began to rebuild and rebrand and now it's just my name. Boring I know. But, I've built my entire brand around my name so my blog is now an extension of that.

What motivates you to keep blogging?
Pretty pictures! And all the lovely people I have met, connections I've made and things I've learned. It's seems like everyday a new opportunity pops up, or someone emails or something cool happens all because I decided to start a little ol' blog back in 2010. Those little things keep me motivated.

What are some qualities you believe a blogger needs to posses?
Be nice. Be flexible. Be original.

What do you consider your greatest success?
I just opened a blowout bar in my hometown! That was (and still is!) a lot of hard work. I did everything from designing the space, to hiring stylists, to overseeing the legal & business aspects to now running our marketing & social media and even answering phones ;)
But now that we're up and going, it is truly amazing. Women come in, get (even more) beautiful and walk out with a smile. I really couldn't ask for a cooler job. That's a huge success in my book.

What’s your social media outlet of choice and why?
Instagram! I love to look at all the lovely snippets and scenes people share. It's a big source of inspiration. And unfortunately, sometimes I'm too busy to blog so really it's a lot faster to snap a couple IG pics during the day. I still stay connected with my blogging community and it satisfies that blogging need.

Thanks Mae! Be sure to check out her blog and if you're ever in Stillwater make sure to get a fabulous blowout or lash extension at The Blo Bar.

Intern Erin- Beach Bliss

After spending a relaxing day on the beach, It was time to decide on a fabulous outfit for the night! I have to say I am huge fan of the maxi skirts and care free light weight summer tops. They give off the beach vibe while still looking stylish! Maxi skirts look awesome with flip flops or for a dressier look I add a pair of wedges! Also to keep my crazy summer hair under control I love to add a fun hat to my look. Summer style should carefree, relaxing and always sunshine ready!

Budget Babe

I have three babies, furbabies that is. Just like any mother I'm crazy about my kids and spoil them endlessly. Call me a dog lady but these little finds have me smitten. Between bright colors, preppy silhouettes and chic decor it's easy to go dog-on overboard.

The New Workout

I'm not five years old but one of my favorite movies is Despicable Me and one of my favorite scenes from the movie is when Vector explains to Agnes that his tracksuit is for working out and not pajamas. Well, lately in any of my free time I've been working around my new house. You can say I've been living in comfy gym clothes that sorta resemble pjs. After all, housework is quite physical, it's my new workout.

Here's what I plan to get my new "workout" on in. Obviously,  pink included.

Business Babe

What girl doesn't love a handbag? After years of the "it" bag it's refreshing to discover a newcomer known for understated styles that don't have a million logos slapped all over them, instead a chic tassel. I interviewed Kelsea of K.Slademade about her bags and business. Here's the scoop...

When and why did you decide to create your brand?
I knew that if I didn’t pursue my dream, I would spend the rest of my life helping someone else make theirs a reality.  I believe in being bold even if those around you don’t agree with what your doing.  We only get one life, make it count.

What is your background in and how did this help prepare you in regards to your business?
The biggest influence in my life has been my parents.  I come from a very creative family.  My father is an artist and a musician.   My mother is the most brilliant woman I know.  The combination of the two has prepared me for all aspects of my business, the good, the bad and the awesome.

What do you believe sets your brand apart from competitors?
K.slademade offer timeless, simplistic, classic handbags that are made in the USA.  That combination is what we thrive on and what makes our brand unique.

What do you consider your greatest success?
Pursuing my dream of designing and owning my own business, while having a glass half full attitude in a glass half empty world.

What is your social media outlet of choice and why?
I have a love hate relationship with Social Media.  Instagram is my go to and is the perfect way to stay in touch with my lovers and friends.  While I love Social Media I some how mange to waste I ton of time scrolling, double taping, filtering, following…you get the idea! ;)

Thanks Kelsea, loved learning more about you & your brand! Check out K. Slademade

Intern Erin- Flower Power

The trend taking over the fashion world has to be Flowers! As an avid shopper I have noticed in all my favorite stores adorable flower accessories and clothing! I have to say my favorites have to be any the fun colored flower jewelry. However, the power of the flower doesn’t stop there, I will definitely be adding sandals and tech accessories following the floral trend to my wardrobe. Nothing says girly, fun, fashion than a gorgeous flower!
